The Kissel Motor Car Company was founded by Louis Kissel and his sons, George and William, on June 5th of 1906 in Hartford, Wisconsin. Often called 'Kissel Kars,' just 150 automobiles are known to remain of the 35,000 they produced. The two-passenger 'Gold Bug' Speedster models were owned by many rich and famous personalities of the time, including actor Fatty Arbuckle and aviatrix Amelia Earhart.
Fred Werner and Will Kissel designed the two-passenger speedster, which was introduced in 191. By 1921, the Kissel sports model was styled with cycle-type fenders and steep plates in place of running boards. They had cut-down door, wire wheels and dual side-mounted spare tires. As the years continued, so did the enhancements and improvements to the Kissel Speedsters.
