My wife calls my camera our fourth child because it goes with us everywhere we go.This would explain the wide variety of photography on my site.After living in the Lake Tahoe Basin for more than 20 years an early disability retirement forced me to move down from the harsh winters of the high sierras to find a more tempered climate . that looks like the anise swallowtail its so pretty its got to be a male as the males get the salt out of the minerals causeduring mating they transfer huge amounts of salts to provide nutrients for eggs .Beautiful colors ,i like the dust of yellow in the black

Thank you Kathy, you are right I think it is a anise there were about six different butterfly at this spot with all of their wings in a row it looked like a sailboat race.
